3. Always confirm the department

  • Use the department and hearing date on the Notice of Hearing or on counsel’s notice. Do not rely on a general list, including this one.
  • Check Probate Notes before the hearing. The court generally posts them about two weeks ahead, and items under “Matters to Clear” must be resolved before the hearing.
  • Court filings should show the assigned judicial officer and department on the first page, as the court’s notices instruct.
  • Older Los Angeles probate case numbers may carry district prefixes. Do not assume a courthouse hears probate today just because an old case number points to it. Use the court’s current notices.
  • If anything here conflicts with lacourt.org or lacourt.ca.gov, the court’s site controls.

Probate referees in Los Angeles County

Bill Gross is not a Probate Referee and does not perform probate appraisals.

Where Bill fits in

Bill Gross handles court-confirmation sales of probate real estate at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, including the overbid process at the confirmation hearing, and IAEA sales that do not need a hearing. He is a licensed real estate broker, not an attorney. Your estate attorney handles filings, notices, and appearances. See how a court-confirmed sale works, or schedule a consultation about a property.
